What is Krav Maga?

- Krav Maga is the official hand-to-hand combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces. 

- Krav Maga is a simple and effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctual movements and practical techniques. 

- Krav Maga is a belt based system but is not a traditional martial art.  Its sole focus is on developing reliable self-defense techniques.

- Krav Maga is a modern system (created in the 1940s) that is focused on current self-defense scenarios.

- Krav Maga techniques and training methods emphasize the ability to react when surprised and to function from a poor state of readiness and move to a aggressive state in order to survive and fight back to end the altercation or stop the threat.

I started training here a few months ago because I wanted to get some self defense experience and give myself a tool for survival. It was the best decision I have ever made, not only because I had always wanted to try it but because it turned out to be so much more than I expected. The benefits from taking this class are numerous and include boosted self confidence, self assurance, and getting in better shape. I have trained under Juan and Beth and I love both of these instructors. Each has a different style so if you attend sessions with both of them you will gain new perspectives. I highly recommend this class, especially for women. It is the best tool to make you feel confident enough that you could survive an attack situation. Other than the personal aspect, the studio is very clean and comfortable to train in. A million thumbs up.

I have been training with Juan for nearly six months. Working with him has given me the confidence to know I am prepared to protect myself, my friends, and my family members if need be. Krav Maga is all about leverage; it is not about strength, and this class is perfect for women. Beth runs the Thursday evening sessions, and she teaches with incredible intensity. I like that both have taught us to be aware of our surroundings, and I feel more comfortable taking the train or working late.

I have been taking self defense classes taught by Juan for a couple weeks now, and it has been a great experience. I'm taking the classes because I live in NYC and will be riding the subway to & from school. Juan is teaching me very useful techniques such as what to do if you are choked, if someone pulls a knife or gun on you, et cetera. Learning these techniques have given me confidence that I will have an idea of what to do if something dangerous happens, and Juan has made learning these techniques interesting and enjoyable. He is really down to earth, nice, humble and a great teacher. 5 stars!!!

If you want to learn self defense and get in shape, this is the place! Not only is the facility clean and easy to get to, the instruction and training is at the highest level. The head instructor, Juan, starts the class with a cardio workout and stretch. Afterwards the lessons (whether striking, self-defense, kicking, ground work, etc.) are all taught in a step-by-step fashion so that the beginner is able to learn and then practice the technique. All of the techniques are related to real-life situations and then practiced in their entirety. The instructors have created an atmosphere (workouts and lessons) in the studio that is not only collaborative, educational, and fun, but ensures that the skills are understood and can be implemented. The classes are broken up in to different levels so that the more experienced practitioner can attend a class where the intensity is increased and the techniques become more technical. I highly recommend training here.
